Field Visit to Quinta do Montalto, Portugal
As part of the final project meeting in Lisbon, the partners visited Quinta do Montalto, a family-run wine estate in Ourem.
During the visit, participants had the chance to explore the vineyard operations, learn about the estate’s land management practices, and exchange ideas on how viticulture can integrate carbon farming principles. Topics included soil care, vegetation cover, and sustainable vineyard management, all of which play a vital role in reducing emissions and enhancing carbon sequestration.
This field visit went beyond scenic landscapes – it highlighted how carbon farming can be applied in practice, offering valuable lessons for farmers, advisors, and policymakers alike. The insights gained will contribute to the project’s Policy Brief and final recommendations, helping to scale up climate-smart practices in European Agriculture.
